@ShashaSelflove 11/26/15 Attitude of Gratitude

Gratitude changes everything…

Today is Thanksgiving, my favorite holiday, it is the holiday where I cook the most and I sit back and watch some football. Most people revel in eating and shopping, I sink into the couch and watch my loved ones eat what I have prepared. I am grateful for their time, their stories and their laughter. I don’t get to share my time often, neither do they – life has gotten busy as of recent, the most valuable item we have so very little of is time. I am also grateful that my mom and dad taught me how to cook, because I get to share what they have taught me. My gratitude helps anchor me, it can be a grounding force for so many of us that have been given so much.

What are you grateful for? It is easy to fall into the pattern of complaining about the things we don’t have, about the life events that go wrong, about those that hurt us and about plans that never materialized. But in focusing on what you don’t have, you lose sight of what you do have and before you know it that whithers aware due to lack of appreciation.

It isn’t what you don’t have that is creating difference in your life, it is what you have been able to acquire and keep. Change your mindset, shift in the direction of showing gratitude for the items in your life that edify you. People in your life that help you be a better person. For experiencing both negative and positive moments so you can be more discerning. For challenges that make you stronger and hardship so you can grow wiser. Put focus on knowing that you have come so far that turning back would be harder than not facing the next challenge. Once you change your attitude from “I am upset that I don’t have…”, to “I am grateful that I have…”, you will start to see differences in your outlook and more importantly, you will open yourself to better opportunity. It is all about readjusting the language that you use and relishing what you already have. It takes a ounce of humility to take those first steps, it takes a gallon to continue.

It is the attitude of gratitude, let it be part of your core and character.

In that spirit, I am grateful for the 600+ people that have decided to follow this blog, I am totally floored by this! Every one of you that write a comment and check in is appreciated and motivates me to keep writing! I am grateful for my amazing family, the friends that have become family and the new people in my life that are slowly becoming friends! I am grateful for treadmills and kettle bells too! There is so much more but there isn’t enough space to name it all, for now I send a big hug and thank you!

  1. Being thankful is yet the hardest skill to acquire today. Once we master this, conquering the world seems a little less frightening

  2. We don’t celebrate Thanksgiving in my part of the world, but this year I too have blogged about what I am thankful for and I agree completely with what you have said here, especially about changing our mindset – it makes all the difference to how we cope with the difficulties in our lives and also gives us so much inner peace.

    1. Thank you Deborah, I appreciate the comment and the follow. We are all here to inspire one another and help along the way. Let’s keep it going!

  3. It is amazing how we are all suffering from “time poverty.” Time is the one “thing” most of us are short of, probably because there is just too much of everything going on that we feel we need to tend to.
    Thank you so much for following Beauty Along the Road. Merry Christmas.

    1. Merry Christmas Beauty! We have to stop it with tine poverty, especially when we are giving our time to the wrong things. Higs!
