Many times we aren’t sure why we are learning the lesson that life is teaching us. We take a step back, “What is this all about?!”, we aren’t clear where in our tool box this tool belongs. But we persevere, we take the blows and the battle scars that come along – almost like following the GPS and not sure if it is  taking you to the right destination.

So what does it look like? Hmm…you know that person that is crushing your happy? The person everyone warned you about? “Please stay away from them, they are just going to hurt you”, but you went ahead, thinking that you are immune to that level of pain – that regardless of what have been told you have hope that they will see the good in you and they will have an epiphany. Did they? Nope. There is your lesson. It hurts, that sharp stabbing pain, that is so you never forget the experience and the burning sensation on your face – well that is a combination of “oh yeah” and “I knew better”. The lesson? False hope can cloud your judgment and people show you who they really even when you are fighting to see them in rose colored glasses.  You may not have been aware of it at the time but you were being afforded a valuable education, you didn’t understand why this person hurt you so much or why you allowed it – you paid your tuition in tears and your diploma is nailed to your heart. Next time when someone tells you to stay away, you will. Next time you will allow someone into your life that ruins your lipstick, not your mascara.

Not all lessons have to do with love and relationships, some have a lot to do with the direction that your life is going in. Wake up calls are not only for hotel rooms, although if you find yourself in one after a weekend of sex, drugs and alcohol you might as arraigned for the conceirge to call you at noon. It happens, you find yourself at the bus stop, at work or in bed. The question you have been supressing pops back up, “What am I doing with my life?”, whether it be a dead end job or a life with no direction – you are being given experiences throughout your journey that steer you to where you are suppose to go. Think about it,  you either take center stage or stay as a member of the audience in the story of your life – that is a decision you are either to scared to make or not aware you had to do.  Think about the quote above, the warrior who is gardening is at peace, he knows he is prepared for anything that comes his way because he has been an active participant in the teachings of his master. Yet, the gardener who has not taken the time to learn the teachings of his master will fail and die in his first battle.

In life, we have to be open to the teachable moments that fate presents us with. Those moments are sometimes confusing and at other instances, they reroute our way of thinking about something. No matter how it hits you, take a deep breath and smile. As you grit your teeth and scratch your head, remind yourself of the many times you have been confused by the lesson but used it when you least expected it. All I can say, embrace what you don’t think you need to learn – you never know when you are going to need to use this, but you are going to be so elated when you know what to do. I am sending what we need the most while learning…Big Hug!

  1. Little tired, about to charge my batteries and get ready for one more day at work. Hope all is well with you!

    1. I have always said that there is something about the human experience that threads us all together! I would like to read your blog, but I can’t open it, send me a link, I would love to read it! Thanks Co!

    1. Aww…thank you! That is so kind of you, when I was in school the nuns told me my writing was no good. So getting compliments on my writing feels strange. I appreciate the comment and let’s keep writing! Happy Friday!

  2. I grew up not exactly believing I could ever scribble something that’d have a little sense in it.. Not too many people showed belief in the few things I used to write behind my notes during classes but right now, I’ve realised that it’s not about how they feel about the things you do, it’s about how you choose to see it and what you believe in yourself. We are who we are, we’d always be and nothing- absolutely nothing can change that! In another life (if there be one) I’d be a writer again, in another country though. I’m glad I met you here.

      1. I don’t know! But I am happy that you are here now! So grateful to have such amazing people following and commenting, it is very special to me when someone takes the time to reach out. Have and awesome day!
