Wouldn’t it be something if we could see the path clearly? If we were totally certain that every step we took was taking us closer to where we are meant to be. The flip side is that there is no room for adventure in a predictable journey, hence there is no wisdom either. In the end, this is what makes the entire effort a great adventure.
When I took the picture above, I sat in a marina about an hour away from my home. It was 100 degrees outside, the scorching heat didn’t keep me inside. I needed some fresh air and to see some new sights. I sat next to my ex-boyfriend, grown-up Shasha has made peace with the seasons of her life and allowed an ex to become a friend. Wisdom has given me peace and a cold beer between friends is nice too.
As we sat there and discussed politics, religion and drama at work – I looked out to the water and fell silent. “Is what I am doing supporting the life I am trying to create?”, I saw the reflection of the sun across the water and took a deep breath. My great adventure is only great if I am purposefully pushing myself. A switch went off, maybe it was heat stroke or the hard cider, but I began to take inventory of my most recent setbacks. I looked at the lessons learned and I compartmentalized what was a “distraction” and “what I am supposed to be working on”. My ex had dozed off into the summer breeze and the gift of silence gave me a moment of self confrontation.
The endeavor is not without reward and that is what makes it worthy. Your great adventure may seem small to some, but it is your passion for it gives you purpose. So, push through – don’t forget to be purposeful in your steps. I am going to do the same. Big hug!
